Walbro Engine Management Facility In Nogales, Mexico, Wins ISO Certification For Its Environmental Management Program

Walbro Engine Management's carburetor and ignition system manufacturing facility in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, has been awarded ISO 14001:1996 certification. The certification confirms that the facility has implemented an effective environmental management system that meets all local, state and federal environmental standards.

"ISO 14001:1996 certification is evidence of Walbro Engine Management's dedication to protecting the environment. It also reflects our commitment to the well-being of our employees and the community of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, where we have had a facility for nearly 25 years," according to Andrew Masterman, President, Walbro Engine Management. "This certification demonstrates that Walbro Engine Management is at the leading edge in environmental issues, not only in Nogales but within the small engine industry."

"Earning ISO 14001:1996 certification is the culmination of nine months of effort by the Nogales team, with a strong effort at all levels of the organization. We are proud of the Nogales team," Masterman said.

"ISO 14001:1996 certification verifies that the Nogales plant has implemented an effective environmental management system that encompasses air, water and ground emissions and meets all applicable environmental standards," said Everardo Mercado, Senior Quality Manager, Walbro de Mexico. "This certification demonstrates our commitment to our employees, who are trained to safely handle waste material as part of our environmental management system. At the same time, the community of Nogales benefits from an overall reduction in plant emissions."

"ISO 14001:1996 is not a static certification," Mercado added. "It requires that we constantly improve by meeting increasingly stringent targets for the reduction of all types of emissions in the future."
