WALBRO
ENGINE MANAGEMENT PLANS SECOND MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN MEXICO
January 19, 2001
TUCSON, Arizona - Walbro Engine Management has
announced plans to build a second manufacturing facility in Mexico in
response to increasing customer demand for Walbro products. The new,
70,000 square foot facility will be built in the city of Los Mochis in
the State of Sinaloa. It is expected to be operational before the end of
2001.
Orders for Walbro carburetors and ignition systems have grown to the
point where we have decided to build a second assembly facility in
Mexico to better serve our customers in the hand-held and industrial
markets, said Andrew Masterman, President, Walbro Engine Management.
We have made major strides in increasing productivity at our existing
facility in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, Masterman noted. However, as
a result of several new multi-year contracts, the addition of a second
facility is the best long-term solution to satisfy customer demand.
The combination of the Nogales and Los Mochis facilities will
significantly expand Walbro Engine Management's overall production
capacity and will provide greater flexibility in manufacturing
operations.
At this time we do not have specific plans regarding the transfer of
products or processes from Nogales to Los Mochis. During the first half
of 2001, we will work with our customers to determine the most
beneficial approach for future manufacturing at both facilities in
Mexico, Masterman said.
Walbro Engine Management, a unit of TI Group Automotive Systems, is the
world's largest manufacturer of small engine carburetors for hand-held
power equipment, and a major manufacturer of small engine ignition
systems and other products for outdoor power equipment and recreational
products. Walbro Engine Management has facilities in the United States,
Mexico, Italy, Japan and China.
TI Group Automotive Systems, a business unit of TI Group plc, was formed
following the acquisition of Walbro Corporation, combining Walbro with
Bundy, a leading manufacturer of fluid carrying products including fuel
lines and connectors. The combination creates a unique global supplier
of complete fuel storage and delivery systems. The new unit would have
had 1999 annual revenues of more than $2.3 billion with 20,000 employees
at 150 facilities around the world. For more information, visit
