WALBRO ENGINE
MANAGEMENT'S LOS MOCHIS, MEXICO, FACILITY WINS ISO CERTIFICATION
Walbro Engine
Management's carburetor manufacturing facility in Los Mochis, Sinaloa,
Mexico, has been awarded ISO-9001: 2000 certification. The certification
was received within six months of the plant opening.
"The Los Mochis team deserves special recognition for being a very
recent start-up operation where most of the workers were not familiar in
working with a systems approach," said Everardo Mercado, Senior Quality
Manager, Walbro de Mexico. "In just six months the entire operation
embraced the opportunity of working with ISO-9001: 2000. This
exceptional effort culminated in a successful ISO certification on
September 12."
"The Walbro Los Mochis facility is one of the first maquiladoras to be
certified in this new ISO standard within the state of Sinaloa," Mercado
added.
ISO 9001: 2000 is a comprehensive, world-wide quality standard. It gives
a company the opportunity to provide improved overall service through a
systematic focus on customer issues. This enhanced focus is accomplished
primarily through a more thorough management involvement in all
processes.
"This certification demonstrates the ability of Wabro's Los Mochis
facility to efficiently deliver high quality products that fully satisfy
our customers' most stringent requirements," according to Mercado.
The Los Mochis facility is the newer of two Walbro Engine Management
facilities in Mexico. Walbro has operated a plant in Nogales, Sonora,
for nearly 25 years.
Walbro Engine Management, a unit of TI Automotive, is the world's
largest manufacturer of small engine carburetors for hand-held power
equipment and a major manufacturer of small engine ignition systems,
fuel injection components and other products for outdoor power
equipment, marine and recreational products. Walbro Engine Management
has facilities in the United States, Mexico, Italy, Japan and China.
