WALBRO DE MEXICO CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF OPERATION
Walbro de Mexico, a
subsidiary of Walbro Engine Management, celebrated its 25th anniversary
with ceremonies at its plant in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, on October 31.
In addition to top Walbro executives, the ceremonies were attended by
many government officials including: Abraham Zaied, Mayor of Nogales,
Sonora, Mexico; Marcos Lopez, Mayor of Nogales, Arizona, USA, and
Heriberto Felix, Economic Development Secretary, Sinaloa, Mexico.
"For 25 years, Mexico has played an important role in our global
strategy," said Andrew Masterman, President, Walbro Engine Management.
"Today, Walbro Engine Management has facilities around the world, and
our Mexican operations remain a cornerstone of our ability to provide
our customers with world-class products and service."
Walbro first established operations in Mexico in 1977, with a carburetor
manufacturing facility in Nogales. In 1991, Walbro began ignition module
manufacturing operations in a separate facility in Nogales.
In 1998, Walbro de Mexico moved both operations to its current 142,000
square foot facility in Nogales. The consolidation of the operations of
the two older facilities into one modern plant resulted in significant
operating efficiencies and allowed the use of the latest manufacturing
techniques.
In April of this year, Walbro opened a second manufacturing facility in
Mexico, in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. The 70,000 square foot plant was built
in response to increasing customer demand for Walbro products for the
hand-held and industrial power equipment markets.
Walbro Engine Management, a unit of TI Automotive, is the world's
largest manufacturer of small engine carburetors for hand-held power
equipment and a major manufacturer of small engine ignition systems,
fuel injection components and other products for outdoor power
equipment, marine and recreational products. Walbro Engine Management
has facilities in the United States, Mexico, Italy, Japan, Thailand and
China. More information is available at www.walbro.com.
